Interesting piece, James. As a developmental editor, I think writers worry a tad overmuch about “their unique” voice. Your brain recognizes patterns its own way; that will express through your sentences without you even thinking about it. Perhaps a better use of our energy, in later drafts, is to devote our conscious thought to how the arrangement of our words can best serve the material we’re writing about. Short and choppy? Long and windy? That’s a craft element we can manipulate.
